Afghan Woman Back Under The Burqa?

In the Instagram Live session titled "Afghan Woman Back Under The Burqa?" hosted by Nelufar Hedayat, I joined from Kabul to discuss the evolving realities for Afghan women under the Taliban's renewed rule. This conversation aimed to shed light on the complexities surrounding women's rights and freedoms in Afghanistan.

During our discussion, I emphasized the importance of understanding the multifaceted experiences of Afghan women. While the burqa is often perceived as a symbol of oppression, it's crucial to recognize that some women may choose to wear it for personal, cultural, or religious reasons. However, the concern arises when such attire becomes a mandated imposition, stripping women of their agency.

I also highlighted the resilience and strength of Afghan women who, despite facing significant challenges, continue to navigate their lives with determination. Their stories are not just about victimhood but also about courage, adaptability, and hope.
